The University of the Arts Bremen invites you to participate in a two-day peer-to-peer symposium in Bremen on August 26 to 27, 2026.
This symposium addresses imaginaries as a field of artistic research.
Imaginaries, in this context, are understood as a mode of reality-building: shared frameworks of meaning that shape our sense of what is possible. Rather than a private mental faculty, they are approached as a performative field, collectively inhabited and continuously negotiated through practice. This symposium centres on the speculative – “what if”– as a way of working with these frameworks. Artistic practice is approached as a site of inquiry and labour, where such structures are produced, tested, and transformed. We invite you to demonstrate how creative processes generate knowledges and intervene in existing conditions. In this sense, “practicing” becomes a
way to reveal and reshape the structures, opening space to rehearse alternative ways of inhabiting reality.
Modes of Contribution
We are looking for proposals that move beyond the lecture format, including but not limited to: workshop, lab, lecture-performance, film screening, discussion, sound intervention, guided reading, hybrid formats, etc.
Support
The symposium will take place in Bremen with hybrid access to support international participation. We recognise that not all colleagues are able to travel, therefore, participation will be possible both onsite and online. We encourage in-person participation where feasible. As a self-organised initiative, our aim is to support horizontal exchange and mutual engagement.
There is no participation fee. We can offer partial support for travel and accommodation for a limited number of participants. Any additional costs must be covered by applicants. We can also provide support letters for those applying for funding from their institutions or other sources.
Submissions due June 15, 2026 via this registration form.
