Terms of Service

Last update: February 17, 2025

Welcome to the Art/In Forum. These Terms of Service explain how our community works and what we expect from each other.

What is Art/In Forum?

Art/In Forum is a collaborative network and platform for artists, researchers, leaders, innovators, and practitioners from diverse sectors to connect and shape social change with artistic intelligence. We’re here to build bridges between fields, mobilize creative wisdom, and imagine better futures together.

Who Can Join?

Art/In Forum is a membership-based community. Membership requires payment (or a complimentary membership gifted by us or an institutional partner). Free newsletter subscribers can receive our Art/In Digest but won’t have login access to the Forum platform.

Members come from around the world and across sectors. While we write for an adult audience, we don’t have age restrictions on who can be a social change agent.

Your Account

When you create an account, you’re responsible for:

  • Keeping your login information secure
  • Making sure your contact information is current
  • Any activity that happens under your account

Memberships are personal and can’t be transferred to someone else. If your membership was gifted to you through an institutional partnership, specific terms may apply.

Payments

Payment: Membership fees are paid annually, unless otherwise specified. We use secure payment processors (currently Stripe) to handle all transactions.

Refunds: There are no refunds for events, unless otherwise specified. Memberships can be cancelled within the first 4 months for a 50% refund.

Membership Cancellation: You can cancel your membership at any time by contacting us at forum@artisticintelligence.com. Your access will continue until the end of your current paid period.

Content & Intellectual Property

Your Content

When you publish blog content of any kind, including text, images, audio, or video, with the Forum, you retain ownership of your work, and agree to keep the content exclusive to Forum members for 6 months before publishing elsewhere, unless you and we agree otherwise.

In publishing content with the Forum, you give us permission to:

  • Display your content to Forum members
  • Curate and feature your content in Forum activities (e.g. events, newsletters, social media)
  • Store and back up your content
Directory Profile

If you choose to list your profile in the Forum directory, the information you provide (name, bio, areas you work in, relevant links) will be visible to anyone.

You control what information appears there, though we reserve the right to make editorial suggestions to maintain the quality and integrity of the public directory.

Our Content

The Forum’s structure, design, branding, and curated content belongs to the Laboratory for Artistic Intelligence which is currently supporting the development of the Forum. You can use Forum content for your own learning and reference, but please don’t reproduce, redistribute, or create derivative works without permission.

Community Standards

This is a professional community focused on social change, led by queer, intercultural, inclusive values; please engage with others respectfully and constructively. These Terms of Service and the Code of Conduct apply to all Forum-related activities.

Forum Activities
  • Blog posts go through editorial review before publication
  • Harassment, hate speech, discrimination, or illegal behaviours will result in immediate removal and account termination
  • Commercial spam or self-promotion unrelated to the Forum’s purpose is not welcome

We reserve the right to remove content or suspend accounts that violate these standards.

Forum Events

We host workshops, residencies, meetups, and other gatherings online and in person. These programs may have additional terms specific to how they are organized and/or what participants may expect which will be communicated at the time of registration.

Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it. The short version: We collect data needed to run the Forum and Forum-related programming. We use some third-party tools and services to assist us in our work.

What We’re Not Responsible For

We work hard to make the Forum valuable and functional, but we need to be clear about limitations:

  • Content Accuracy: Members share diverse perspectives and expertise. We curate for quality and values alignment, but we’re not fact-checking every claim or guaranteeing outcomes from any advice shared.
  • External Links: Forum content may link to external websites or resources. We’re not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of those sites.
  • Availability: We aim to keep the Forum accessible, but technology happens. We can’t guarantee uninterrupted access and won’t be liable for technical issues, downtime, or data loss.
  • Member Interactions: While we cultivate a professional community, we’re not liable for interactions between members, agreements made between members, or outcomes of collaborations that begin via the Forum.

Changes to the Forum

We’re building something new and responsive to emergent needs. That means:

  • We might add, modify, or discontinue features
  • We might change membership structures, benefits, or fees
  • We’ll communicate significant changes, but the Forum will evolve

If changes are significant enough that they materially affect your membership, we’ll give you notice and the option to cancel if the changes don’t work for you.

Ending Your Membership

You can leave: Cancel anytime by contacting us. Your access continues through your paid period, and your content will remain unless you ask us to remove it.

We might need to remove you: We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, our Code of Conduct, or that harm the community. We’ll typically give warning unless the violation is severe. No refunds for terminated accounts.

Changes to These Terms

We will update these Terms as needed. We’ll post the updated version with a new date at the top. For major changes, we’ll notify members directly. Continuing to use the Forum after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

Legal Stuff

Governing Law: These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. Any disputes will be resolved in Ontario courts.

Limitation of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Laboratory for Artistic Intelligence won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Forum. If we are found liable for anything, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for membership in the past 12 months.

Indemnification: If your use of the Forum causes legal trouble for us (for example, if you post content that violates someone else’s copyright), you agree to cover the costs and damages.

Severability: If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.

Entire Agreement: These Terms, along with our Code of Conduct and Privacy Policy, make up the complete agreement between you and the Forum.
